Mastodon?

I don't plan on hosting a Mastodon instance at all, and neither am I thinking of signing up for any instance, but I'm curious what your opinions on the platform are.

It is a Twitter-like where people can host their own "instances" which can communicate with other "instances," meaning that unlike a forum like this, a Mastodon instance doesn't necessarily have communications limited to people that also have an account on the same server.

It also means that whether your account stays up and your communications stay intact depends on whether:

• The administrator of your instance continues to host it indefinitely
• Your account is not banned by the administrator of your instance
• The instance you are a part of does not get blacklisted by others

You can of course host your own, but problems may still come up if you get blacklisted.

I guess if you manage to find a cool instance, hosted by nice people who can keep it live, with common interests, and that are relatively harmless as to not get themselves blacklisted, you could have a nice experience.

I want to like Microblogging but Twitter had both the largest communities and a lot of nice features that made mastodon not that cool when i tried it a few years back, i don't know how to feel about the power being split up among instance owners, feels like it could easily become a situation where getting in the cool circle of instances is impossible

I feel twitter was just a media consumption platform rather than actual microblogging
