Title: Discord Status NFC Cards
Post by: dunkyl on Jul 20, 2025, 10:30 PM
I want to share a project I started in early 2021, but got into recently and might wrap up nicely. I forget if I ever posted this anywhere.

It's a set of NFC cards, and a scanner thing (not pictured), to control my Discord status. There's several fun parts to it, simplest of which is i just occasionally pick up the cards to feel them  .

Yesterday, I just killed the NFC chip while trying to de-solder some pins on it's breakout board, so I'm waiting for a new one in the mail.

In the mean time, I just laminated them since they were starting to get their edges roughed up.

ALSO thanks formum software for eating this post

Whaaaaat

That's really cool... Really like the design of these cards too. Looks like there are a couple more cards than Discord statuses, though... what are those :3

Also I would definitely be feeling and fidgeting with those cards too if I got my paws on them x3

The other two are "STRM" and "CSTM". Discord got rid if its prior notion of a custom status that replaced the dot, so, I guess that one's obsolete. The stream one I haven't implemented but I think that's still a thing, where it shows the purple dot in certain circumstances? I would have it be a shortcut to open OBS and some relevant web pages.

I had to pick it up from my old address. Anyway, does anyone have thoughts about I2C vs SPI
